Privacy Policy
Last updated: March 25, 2026
1. Who we are
This Privacy Policy describes how Five (“we,” “us,” or “our”) handles information when you use our mobile application (package name com.fiveapp.app), our website, and related services (together, the “Services”). Five is a text-based social application that lets you create an account, build a profile, post content, follow other users, and receive notifications.
2. Information we collect
We collect information you provide, information generated when you use the Services, and limited technical data from your device.
- Account and profile: such as username, display name, email address, password (stored using secure hashing on our servers—not in plain text), profile biography, and profile photo or avatar images you upload.
- Content you create: posts, replies, and other materials you submit through the Services, including any media you choose to attach.
- Social graph and activity: such as followers, following relationships, likes or similar interactions, and notification-related activity supported by the app.
- Authentication and security: session tokens or similar credentials stored on your device to keep you signed in, and server logs used to protect accounts and the Services (for example, sign-in attempts and API access).
- Device and technical data: such as device type, operating system, app version, language settings, IP address, and approximate network or regional information derived from standard server communications. Our Android app requests network access to operate; we do not require access to your contacts, microphone, or precise location for core functionality.
- Optional sign-in providers: if you use Google or other third-party sign-in where offered, we receive information from that provider according to your choices and their policies (for example, basic profile identifiers). Their use of data is governed by their own privacy policies.
3. How we use information
We use the information above to:
- Provide, operate, and improve the Services;
- Create and manage your account and profile;
- Display content and social features to you and other users according to your settings (including visibility or privacy preferences you control in the app where available);
- Send service-related messages (such as password reset or security notices) and in-app notifications you enable;
- Maintain security, prevent abuse, enforce our terms, and comply with legal obligations.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your content to train generalized artificial intelligence models for unrelated third parties.
4. How we share information
We share information only as needed to run the Services or as required by law:
- Other users: profile information and content you choose to make visible (for example, public posts or a public profile) are visible as designed by the product.
- Service providers: trusted vendors that host infrastructure, store data, send email, or provide analytics or security services under contractual obligations to protect information and use it only on our instructions.
- Legal and safety: when we believe disclosure is required to comply with law, regulation, legal process, or governmental requests, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of users, the public, or Five.
- Business transfers: if we are involved in a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to appropriate safeguards and notice where required.
5. Data retention and deletion
We retain information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Services, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. When you delete your account (where the app or our processes allow), we delete or anonymize personal information unless a longer retention period is required by law. For step-by-step instructions on requesting deletion, see our Account deletion page.
6. Security
We use administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect information against unauthorized access, loss, or alteration. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure; we encourage you to use a strong, unique password and protect access to your device.
7. Children’s privacy
The Services are not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction to consent to processing of personal data without parental permission). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under that age. If you are a parent or guardian and believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us at the email below and we will take steps to delete such information where required by law.
Our standards regarding child safety and child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE) are published on our Safety standards page.
8. International users
We may process and store information in countries other than where you live. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards (such as contractual clauses) for international transfers of personal data.
9. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export personal information we hold about you; to object to or restrict certain processing; to withdraw consent where processing is based on consent; and to lodge a complaint with a data protection authority. To exercise these rights, contact us using the email below. We may need to verify your identity before fulfilling your request.
If you are a California resident, you may have additional rights under the CCPA/CPRA regarding disclosure, deletion, and opt-out of certain sharing; contact us to make a request. We do not “sell” or “share” personal information as those terms are defined under California law for targeted advertising.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version on this page and revise the “Last updated” date. If changes are material, we will provide additional notice as appropriate (for example, in-app notice or email).
